About The Blog (and me ^^)

Me! Nah.. This blog of mine has been running for about 3 weeks now. I've been pleasantly surprised at the number of visitors I get a day, considering its new, and I'm not famous. *queue embarrassed laughter* Sure, its not exactly a whopping amount, I know blogs getting traffic of 200-300 people a day, and I'm nowhere near their exalted postions, but that's all cool, because I didn't exactly get this started with that purpose. I guess you would know what I'm aiming at here. With those words said, I feel obligated to at least tell some of you readers about myself, the blog, and why I'm doing this. I understand how some of you would not be interested, so feel free to skip this mind-numbing ramble of mine and proceed to other things. ^^ Be that as it may, I shall still say a few things.

As you can see, I've mentioned in a few places that this site will be mostly about anime, games with a healthy dose of toy collecting thrown in for good measure. Now this blog is done by me, myself and I. As much as I wish there were some people around to help me with updates and stuff, there isn't. So, I guess what I'm trying to put forward here is that the site will be updated as often as possible, but beware the interludes of emptiness. A little info on myself. I'm still stuck in the world of students, and as much as I gripe about it everyday, I know that I'll probably yearn for these days again when I'm older. I am currently doing a degree in Chemical Engineering in Melbourne (That's in Australia for those living in the North Pole) ^^. It's a tough but necessary undertaking if you know what I mean.

My first brush with anime came a heck of a long time ago. It was when I was about 4 or 5 years old I believe. I watched 2 cartoons on TV without even having the word anime in my vocabulary. These were Transformers and Dragonball Z, and they changed my life, to a certain degree. However, all I knew back then was that these transforming robots and insanely-muscled, banana-haired characters were beyond cool. I still remember 'playing' at Dragonball with some mates of mine.*ahem* There wasn't much in between, as access to more anime was very very limited. Then I got to primary school, where in my fourth year, I noticed many of my friend reading comics of those characters I adored! Holy Cow! I knew I had to get them, sad but true, I guess. Again, manga wasn't in my vocabulary, but that didn't matter.

Rurouni Kenshin Dragonball, Dragon Quest, Gundam, Inuyasha, even Sailormoon, it just went on and on. I knew I was hooked. ^^ I strived to find and watch any anime I could get my hands on, and 8 years back, that wasn't exactly easy. Cantonese and mandarin versions were aplenty where I lived, so it wasn't until somewhere in 1998 where I watched my first anime in Japanese. Rurouni Kenshin it was so named, and the bomb it was, lol. The fighting scenes in that show were to me, in many ways cooler than Dragonball. I had enough of people flying and blasting each other with energy. The 'Amakakeru Ryo no Hirameki' was way better than the 'Kame Hame Ha'.

It's been quite a few years now, and I would say I've watched my fair share of japanese animation. With bittorent around, it's alot easier to get the latest very quickly. At the end of last year (Nov 2005), I came across a few toy shops where, to my amazement, some of the older Transformer figures I owned were worth around US$400. That piqued my interest in toys again, and since I've always been a kid at heart, it did it in a big way. So, from then on, I've been collecting (not playing with, mind you) Transformers, and soon after, anime pvc figurines. Sadly, these 2 money-consuming interests of mine, toys and anime, could be bundled into one happy package of a vinyl figure, which I might add, looks great when put on display in a glass case. So, now I'm quite often unwilling to spend on stuff like computer upgrades and whatnot, choosing more to blow it on toys, books (yes, i still read), and anime.

I've always wanted a place I could look and read about the stuff I like, the way I like it. The inspiration for this blog came when I stumbled upon dannychoo.com, as you may or may not have noticed from parts of my blog layout (gomenasai & arigato danny! ^^). I was blown away, and thought I'd really like to do something like that. So here we are.

Just a little warning though. My site was started initially just for writing about anime I liked and showcasing a bit of my toy collection. However, since I am not home, the toy part was hard to achieve (although I will add it soon), so I've decided to also put in some news and views on anime and toys (be it old stuff or upcoming stuff). Please do not expect episode-by-episode reviews of anime, or the latest, hottest news every week. I don't pretend to be a Japanese language expert, or an anime critic, so if my views do not match yours, there's nothing I can do. ^^; I will definitely do reviews of games, toys and animes, but in my own time, unless requested for. Basically, I talk about things that interest me, and if that interests you too, then you're more than welcome to read or comment. Finally, I just hope everyone who reads the blog enjoys it and I bid you a very enthusiastic "irasshai!" (welcome).

Hey my older sis is studying in Melbourne U too.

I see your layout is a bit similar to Dannychoo's. His is quite spectacular, with the flash banner and all that. But I think everyone should have their own style.

As for hit rate, no one is ever satisfied with theirs. Everyone wants more, it's like money.

Really? That's cool. What's her field of study, if I may ask?

Yes, I did mention that 'inspiration' came from viewing his blog. =) What caught my eye the most was the thumbnail he had for each post, which I've 'tried' to implement. I'm really an amateur at this html and css stuff, so since I needed a point to start, I guess his site was as good as any. Imitation is the best form of flattery I guess. ^^

I just stumbled upon your weblog today and nearly did a double-take from how similar it looks to Danny's. ^_^;; You have some interesting entries and sections (yay, football!) and your figure collection is pretty awesome. I hope that in time your can develop a more original layout so that Tenjou can have its very own "look".

Whee! All hail King Danny! Aha, seriously, I guess putting that Figure.Fm logo in my sidebar was a big mistake, haha. But yes, like tj_han said earlier, his blog is really cool. As I mentioned, I really don't know head or tail of html, and blogger isn't the easiest to work with (I can't make categories and stuff).

So, I thought his layout was worth a try. I'm tweaking things slowly. =) I'll probably stay with the three sections thing, (3 bars of text is cool!) but not to worry, Danny's blog is his own and I respect that.

Oh, and thanks for taking a look. ^_^
